Physics - Faculty of Science

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a PhD in Theoretical Physics. The successful candidate will contribute to the research effort of the Quantum Optics Theory Group at the University of Auckland, with emphasis on the field of cavity quantum electrodynamics in both the many-atom and single-atom regimes.

Research

  • The successful candidate is expected to have deep understanding of the basics of theoretical quantum optics. They are expected to be familiar with the principles and phenomena of cavity quantum electrodynamics.

  • Previous experience with many-body quantum systems and entanglement, quantum phase transitions, and quantum information science would be advantageous. Other welcome attributes include: a strong track record of delivering successful outcomes in scientific research, excellent communication and presentation skills, and an accurate and independent approach to research.

  • Candidates must have proven track records of research and skills in quantum optics, and a substantive record of publications in high impact journals. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the supervision of graduate students. The position is funded by the Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, a New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence.

 

Academic

  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date academic knowledge of the field of cavity quantum electrodynamics across a range of architectures, including:

  • Maintaining a database of relevant scientific papers.

  • Preparing literature reviews as requested, and disseminating relevant publications to other members of the group.

 

Scientific Reporting and publication

  • Assist in the preparation of academic reports, including posters and publications in peer-reviewed journals, as requested.

 

Other Duties

  • Other duties as requested by either Associate Professor Scott Parkins, HOD or department manager.
