Job Details
Historical Papers is one of the largest and most comprehensive independent archives in Southern Africa.
As a research-intensive university, the University is in the process of re-conceptualizing libraries to suit our needs in the 21st century. We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and innovative person for the position of Principal Curator: Archives & Digital Library to ensure that Digital Library and Archives initiatives support the research, teaching, learning, scholarly communication, and preservation needs of the University community.
Available: As soon as possibleQualifications:
- A Bachelors degree in the Humanities, with a South African history specialisation
- Post-graduate professional archival degree or diploma
- Five years in a capacity requiring both supervisory and professional archival and digitisation project management in an academic library setting
- The person in this post reports to the University Librarian.
Required Skills:
- Manage and develop archival collections and services
- Develop and manage the Wits Digitisation Centre
- Create and deliver digital content aligned to the Library Collection Development and Management Policy
- Ensure adherence to established, internationally accepted preservation, digitization and interoperability standards
- Integrate digital collections with other library resources for widened access
- Integrate library digital collections into the e-learning environment
- Advocate digital library initiatives and anticipate future digitisation trends
- Staff management and their professional development
- Managing outreach, promotion and public relations relating to Library Digital and Archival Resources
- Conceptualise and identify digital library and archives projects
