The Architecture & Built Environment Library is located on the first floor of the John Moffat Building. Together with the Engineering Library, the Architecture & BE Library serves primarily the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. The library is a small and designated library for study and research, which holds a good collection of books for the Built Environment.

As a research-intensive university, we are in the process of re-conceptualizing libraries to align with our needs in the 21st century. We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced and innovative person for the position of Senior Librarian to manage the Architecture library’s services and staff in support of the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment’s teaching programmes and research needs.

Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • 4-year professional Bachelor degree with science related subjects, plus postgraduate professional LIS diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years relevant professional library experience with advanced information resources retrieval skills and the training thereof;
  • Managerial and supervisory skills
  • The person in this post reports to the Manager: Library Research Support Services


Responsibilities:

  • Provision of information services to staff and students
  • Plan, initiate, oversee and implement the Architecture Library’s operations, programmes and services
  • Delivery of information literacy skills
  • Collection development - ensure that appropriate resources are available for all academic units in the Faculty and apportion available funds to all subject areas
  • Staff supervision and library management to ensure prompt service availability
  • Recommend priorities, projects and procedures for the creation of digital content in the Built Environment schools in close coordination with other departments in the library.
  • Oversee circulation and routines management by recording and submitting relevant statistics
  • Oversee the management of the physical library collection according to existing guidelines
