    The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. Comprised of five schools and a number of disciplines, research centres and institutes, the faculty is focused on education excellence and innovative research in the health sciences.

    Programs taught out of the faculty train medical practitioners: surgeons, dentists, nurses and psychologists and other health professionals. The faculty boasts one of the largest concentrations of leading researchers, academic teachers and clinical titleholders working across the areas of health.

    The Adelaide Medical School encompasses the disciplines of General Practice, Medical Sciences, Medical Specialties, Paediatrics and Reproductive health, Rural Health and Surgical Specialties. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and is made up of academics, researchers and clinical titleholders.

    The Health Performance and Policy Research (HPPR) Unit is now seeking a part-time (0.5 FTE) Research Officer to join our growing research program. In this newly created position, the Research Officer will be responsible for assisting the team in establishing a new research program that that uses routinely collected hospital data to assess patient outcomes and healthcare quality. 

    In addition, the Research Officer is expected to spend up to 30% of their time on supporting clinical research activities in the hospital environment and provide general research and administration support to the HPPR staff. The research officer will be supported and encouraged to develop research skills and contribute to all aspects of research design and execution.

    Working under general direction this position is ideally suited to a highly motivated individual passionate about making a difference. The position offers a mix health services research involving analysis of large healthcare datasets and exposure to patient-centred clinical research in a hospital environment.

    This is a junior research position that is ideal for someone seeking to establish a research career in the field or seeking to gain research experience prior considering a higher degree in clinical or health services research. The position is initially until the end of 2017 with the possibility of extension.

    Components of the role are:

    • Design and development of the research program liaising with HPPR staff and external stakeholders
    • Preparation and submission of data applications, ethics and governance documents
    • Study coordination
    • Assist with write up of manuscripts, reports and research grants
    • Assist with preparation, conduct and analysis of research findings

    Salary: (HE05) $65,303 - $72,871 per annum.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

    Term of position: This part time 0.5FTE fixed-term contract is available immediately until the end of the year. It is located at The Basil Hetzel Institute at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    • Bachelor's degree with honours from an accredited university in science, health sciences, public health, or related field
    • Demonstrated experience in undertaking and completing research activities
    • High level interpersonal and written and oral communication skills including the ability to establish cooperative working relationships with a range of individuals within a multidisciplinary research team
    • Able to work independently within the team environment, meet deadlines, and work with a high-degree of attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
