Job Details

The Graduate School of Education is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic SL/Reader to make a significant contribution to our work in the Psychology of Education. The successful individual will join an established teaching team, and will take on the leadership of our long-established MSc Psychology of Education programme and contribute to the educational delivery of our new BSc Psychology in Education programme (both BPS accredited). Both these courses are designed to embed Psychology in Education, and have attracted students who wish to develop careers where psychology is applied to work with children, young people and schools. The School is ideally looking for candidates with expertise in Cognitive Psychology, with the ability to translate cognitive research into educational settings. An ability to contribute to teaching around Children and Young People’s Mental Health is desirable. Other specialisms will, however, be considered. Candidates will also be at the forefront of their field, and will be expected to play a significant role in the delivery of the School’s research strategy.

The successful individual will be appointed to the role of Programme Director for the School’s established and successful MSc Psychology of Education programme, and will therefore take on a key leadership role in this area. The post will require experience and/or familiarity with BPS accreditation procedures and liaison activities. We are therefore looking for recent and relevant experience of postgraduate teaching and leadership.

You should have an excellent track record of national and international publications, proven and significant research grant success, and make a leading contribution to the intellectual research culture of the School, Faculty and institution. You will be an experienced doctoral supervisor, and have experience of supervising doctoral candidates through to completion. We welcome applicants who have interests that complement our existing research strengths. Candidates who can clearly articulate how their research and teaching interrelate are of particular interest to us, as are those who bring methodological insights.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
