Business School

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading University.  It employs over 5400 academic and professional staff to support over 41,000 students making us one of NZ’s largest employers. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accountant to join the Business School.  The University of Auckland Business School has an unconditional commitment to quality teaching and research in topics that are forward-focused and relevant to the commercial world today.

Reporting to the Director of Faculty Finance, you will be responsible for completing regular accounting requirements including monthly accounts and forecasting, the provision of reports and analysis of financial information, as well as the provision of advice to the managers and budget holders.

You will also play a key role in supporting other members of the Faculty’s Finance Team. You will provide financial and management accounting support including advice to a high degree of accuracy and in line with University policies. You need to demonstrate a strong technical accounting understanding along with the ability to drive policy, procedure and systems improvements to ensure levels of compliance and best practice are adhered to.

In addition, you will oversee the Faculty’s capital expenditure and Asset management, support the Faculty’s external Research activities, and play a key role in the Annual Budget and Planning process.

Candidates, who demonstrate a well-developed knowledge and understanding of financial management and applying accounting methodology to a large, diverse organisation, with a minimum of 3 years’ post graduate experience in financial and management accounting, will be strongly considered.

You will exhibit excellent financial and management accounting skills, have a robust and rigorous approach to decision making and be a proactive and solutions focused professional who balances strong process and results orientation with excellent staff and relationship management skills.  Your superb supervisory and communication skills, combined with strong skills in Excel and preferably PeopleSoft experience, will allow you to hit the ground running.  We are looking for someone who is technically strong but who can also work autonomously and be a team player with the rest of the team.

Ideally you will either be CA or part CA qualified and hold a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or related business disciplines.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who is keen to develop and progress their career in a commercial role, working in a professional, high-growth environment where you will be rewarded with working within one of Auckland’s largest and most diverse employers.

The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students in a safe, inclusive and equitable environment.  For further information on services for Māori, Pacific, women, LGBTI, equity groups, parenting support and flexible work go to www.equity.auckland.ac.nz.
