Research and Innovation Services (R&IS;) delivers a range of services which support academic and research staff fulfil their research and enterprise objectives.  In particular R&IS; support the development of research collaborations whether with industry or other partners, consultancy services and the commercialisation of intellectual property.  

You will be part of a specialist team within R&IS; providing advice on research, consultancy and technology agreements and on intellectual property matters. The Contract Officer role is an important member of the Major Contracts Team and will work with all 4 existing manager level posts. You will be expected to negotiate and provide professional yet pragmatic advice on a wide range of agreements predominantly relating to the research and enterprise activities undertaken by the University. The focus of support provided by the Contract Officer will be on industry sponsored research studentships, consultancy services, confidentiality agreements, clinical site agreements and material or data transfer agreements. The Contract Officer will also play a significant role in providing guidance and advice to our faculty based teams who handle the greater volume of contracts and more routine matters.

You must have recent experience of contract review; negotiation; and be able to draft amendments appropriately and have a good understanding of intellectual property. Ideally you will have gained this experience in an industry-university setting and/or on research and development activities. Experience coordinating and negotiating a high number of projects at any one time is highly desirable as is experience gained in or working with at least one of the following industry sectors: aerospace, defence, engineering, ICT, health and pharmaceutical. 

You will need to have excellent written, presentation and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate at a variety of levels including senior managers in large multinationals. You must be a team player with the ability to work collaboratively with others to disseminate and share knowledge and information. You must have a good degree in either law or one of the sciences and had further contract training.
