ORT Marks Graduate Outreach Fellowships

World ORT and the University of Southampton are pleased to announce a graduate outreach fellowship programme beginning in September 2017. Two fellowships of £5000 will be offered each year to Masters- or PhD- level students applying to study Jewish history and culture at the University of Southampton.

Fellows will devote 1 day per week to outreach and research work on the ORT Music and the Holocaust website (http://holocaustmusic.ort.org/), a leading and widely-used educational resource that was featured at the United Nations in 2014.

Over the course of one academic year, fellows are expected to write 10-15 short entries for the website; plan and deliver 3-6 outreach events, in partnership with the Parkes Institute’s Outreach Programme; and monitor social media and the web to make sure the website’s content remains up-to-date.

The fellows’ principal supervisor will be Dr Shirli Gilbert, with a co-supervisor selected to suit the candidate's particular research interests.

Fellowships will be granted for one year in the first instance. Students pursuing degrees longer than a year may re-apply for the fellowship in subsequent years.

Alongside an application to the University of Southampton for their chosen course of study, applicants should submit a short CV and one-page statement to s.gilbert@soton.ac.uk by Tuesday 2nd May 2017. The statement should include ideas for outreach activities to disseminate the website’s content to a broad audience.

World ORT is a non-profit organisation with past and present activities in more than 100 countries spanning 135 years. ORT educates people, trains people, and builds economic self-sufficiency for communities.
