Job Details
Job Purpose
On behalf of or direction from the Director of BCTU:
- Lead and manage the team of trial management staff ensuring effective delivery across a portfolio of clinical trial research projects and ensuring appropriate management of resources, planning and budgets across the area.
- Optimise income through a range of sources
- Lead the development and application of the Units quality management system ensuring compliance at all times
- Lead an agenda of business process improvement ensuring changes are effectively implemented and effective change management has taken place across all levels of staff
- Provide operational assurance through effective reporting and application of management control processes
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD/MSc, or equivalent
Demonstrable Experience of:
- Conducting, design and leading the management of clinical trials including resource and budgetary management
- Developing and leading a large team of staff from a broad range of professional backgrounds ensuring a high level of performance management at all times
- Working in a matrix environment delivering to a number of different stakeholders / partner
- Leading or participating in successful applications for major grants from third party bodies
- Developing and implementing new processes and practices
- Training in clinical trials research
- Leadership and excellence in teaching and course development
Knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of clinical trials regulations and standard operating procedures, including experience of process improvement
- Awareness of Higher Education issues and the possible implications for the Unit and the Institute
- Knowledge of the governance, development and research opportunities in clinical trials.
- Knowledge of UK University Teaching, Research administration and funding
Skills
- Demonstrable networking and collaboration skills through building strong professional and industry links and relationships (Locally, nationally and internationally)
- Demonstrable influencing skill at senior level in an academic or clinical environment
- Demonstrable project management skills in the trial area
- Ability to communicate research findings to a wide range of audiences and promote methodological advancements to key stakeholders
