Assistant Professor, Pharmacology

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan's first private international university, is committed to the provision of effective health sciences education, research and health services relevant to Pakistan and the developing world. The Medical College comprises of Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, the clinical disciplines, Department of Community Health Sciences. State-of-the-art research facilities, including a purpose-built research building, are available on campus.

The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences comprises the disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. The major goals of the department are to:

• develop the students' ability to think critically and apply basic principles of Biological Sciences to solve problems related to health and disease in Pakistan
• promote and establish a research milieu, which is conducive to learning and creating new knowledge
• strengthen the PhD Programme in Health Sciences by offering graduate courses and mentorship to doctoral students
• initiate other graduate programmes (MPhil, MS) and others as needed.

The Department strives to achieve excellence in both teaching and research. The development and expansion of thematic research programmes in both basic and applied research will take AKU to the next level on the international scene while benefitting specific health care needs of Pakistan.
 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• actively participating and contributing to the MBBS, Masters, PhD Programmes and other academic activities
• involving in the development and running of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum
• initiating independent/collaborative research projects
• fully engaging in scholarly activities of the department.

Requirements

You should have:

• a PhD degree in Pharmacology with MBBS or equivalent qualifications
• at least two years’ experience as Senior Instructor or equivalent in the relevant area
• good track record of research publications preferably in journals of international repute.
