Job Purpose

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking specified research activities within the NERC funded project “Cracking the Code of Adaptive Evolution” (deCODE).

The successful applicant will (1) analyse existing experimental evolution data using advanced statistics; (2) generate data for high throughput sequencing; (3) link fitness responses at specie level with transcriptomic and genomic data.

Person Specification

  • • First degree in a relevant area and either a PhD or an equivalent period of conducting research with substantial experience in experimental evolution design and analysis, statistics and molecular biology techniques
  • • High level analytical capability
  • • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • • Experience in scientific writing and data presentation
  • • Proven skills in designing and conducting experiments
  • • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously including a track record of managing data obtained different sources (e.g. experiments, molecular ecology, multi-omics technologies).
  • • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • • Ability to code in R or similar software is required
  • • Knowledge in basic bioinformatics will be considered an advantage
  • • The ideal candidate will: (i) understand the theoretical underpinnings of evolutionary theories; (ii) have proven experience in conducting and analysing experiments in the field of evolutionary ecology; (iii) have proven experience in the molecular biology laboratory with focus on generating high throughput sequencing data (iv) have prior experience in working with the model system Daphnia.
