The Centre for Evidence-based Health Care (CEBHC), a coordinating and directive centre for research and training in evidence based health care, at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Stellenbosch University seeks applications from suitable candidates to promote evidence-based health care (EBHC), conduct and support systematic reviews and relevant research, and promote the use of best evidence in healthcare policy and practice, as part of its role as joint host of Cochrane Nutrition, a newly established Cochrane Field. http://nutrition.cochrane.org/.


Duties

The successful candidates will assume responsibility for the following duties:
 
·         Lead or help conduct research projects related to the work of the Field, including methods research related to evidence synthesis.
·         Draft policy briefs and other technical summaries to disseminate evidence from Cochrane nutrition reviews to relevant stakeholders.
·         Project management support to the Field co-Directors, e.g. prepare annual reports, arrange conference calls, meetings, and workshops.
·         Prepare and maintain the Field module in The Cochrane Library.
·         Prepare and maintain the Field website.
·         Maintain the Field database of contacts and communicate with the CNF community, as needed.
·         Work with other Cochrane entities to ensure that nutrition issues are adequately addressed.
·         Coordinate the work of volunteer contributors, who collaborate toward achieving the goals of the field based on their skills, competencies and areas of interest.
·         Build and maintain relationships and networks with relevant stakeholders and partners.
·      Help seek funding and develop grant proposals for funding

Job Requirements

·         MBChB or equivalent degree, or four-year professional bachelor's degree in a health related discipline and a Master's level degree in public health/ epidemiology or related field.
·         Experience in successfully managing research projects or research grants, conducting research and data management.
·         Experience in facilitating workshops and teaching.
·         Good working knowledge of the principles and practice of evidence-based health care, epidemiology and research methods.
·         Organised, with good attention to detail and meets deadlines.
·         Works well as part of a team and able to maintain strong relationships; excellent English communicator and excellent English writing skills.
·         Creative and innovative, takes initiative and good facilitation skills.
·         Accomplished in MS Office or similar software .     
·         As a prerequisite, the position requires an excellent record of collegiality and collaboration and a comprehensive understanding of research methodologies.


Recommendation

·         PhD.
·         Previous experience in successfully preparing systematic reviews.
·         Previous experience of nutrition-related research.
·         Previous experience in knowledge translation.
·         Good knowledge of systematic reviews of interventions, and research synthesis.
·         Completed and published a Cochrane review or a systematic review related to nutrition.
·         Working with statistical software packages and RevMan software.
·         Website management.
·         Publication record as evidence of scientific writing.
·         The ability to collaborate effectively with people from a wide range of disciplines and to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
