Specialist, Teacher Development

Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) is Pakistan’s first private Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education that offers qualifications in both English and Urdu. AKU-EB's primary purpose is to improve the quality of education. It achieves this by making examinations of reputable standard more accessible to Pakistani students so that AKU-EB qualifications are increasingly valued by leading higher education institutions within and outside the country.

The Examination Board was established by Aga Khan University in August 2003 in accordance with Ordinance CXIV of the Government of Pakistan to offer examination services for both Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC).

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Teacher Development, you will be responsible for development of high quality training and teaching materials in addition to projects for the Middle School Programme (MSP); and conducting training sessions.

Specific responsibilities include:

• working with academic specialists and other trainers to develop high quality teaching and training materials and projects for MSP
• scheduling and conducting teacher training sessions throughout the year in Schools registered with AKU-EB and determine its impact
• analyzing data generated through research and innovation
• preparing reports/papers etc.
• identifying areas for research with team members
• initiating research projects and keeping team up to task
• working collaboratively on broader AKU-EB research projects with other academic departments in EB
• encouraging the participation of teachers in research.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

• a Master degree in Science or Social Sciences with excellent academic qualifications
• at least one to two years teaching experience; further experience as a teacher trainer, preferably with adult learners, would be advantageous
• strong communication skills in English and Urdu (both oral and written)
• strong conceptual and analytical skills
• ability to work well in teams. Highly motivated and self-directed
• eagerness to learn new approaches, methods and practices
• ability to understand and contribute to AKU-EB’s vision
• ability to represent the Exam Board to schools, students and parents
• willingness to travel domestically for work related assignments.
