DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: ASSESSMENT AND QUALITY ASSURANCE IN EDUCATION (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Develop, present and co-ordinate undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance presentation;
  • Use a learning management system to develop and present courses;
  • Present lectures and programmes out of town on any day of the week, including after hours and over weekends as required;
  • Provide a significant contribution to research outputs, postgraduate teaching and supervision, as well as mentor students on teaching practice.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Senior Lecturer:

  • A teaching qualification;
  • An appropriate PhD;
  • Experience in the teaching of Research Methodology, and some exposure to both qualitative and quantitative methods;
  • At least five articles published in fully accredited academic journals;
  • Proven standing as an active researcher amongst peers;
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision at masters and doctoral levels.

Associate Professor (Same as for Senior Lecturer, plus)

  • At least fifteen articles, of which six should be in the last three years, published in fully accredited academic journals;
  • Proven standing as an active researcher amongst international peers;
  • A record of successful completion in postgraduate supervision particularly at masters and doctoral levels (at least ten successfully completed);
  • Proven record of the ability to attract external funding.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Established expertise in assessment and quality assurance in education, with relevant quantitative and/or qualitative research experience;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Ability to use AtlasTI and SPSS.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Knowledge of instrument design and development.

 

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
