University of Pretoria has implemented a portfolio of Oracle software which includes:

  • Oracle PeopleSoft suite (including Human Capital Management, Financials, Campus Solutions and Customer Relationship Management);
  • Oracle Fusion Middleware (including Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle WebCenter, Oracle Identity and Access Management, Oracle Enterprise Content Management and Business Intelligence suites).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:

  • Take the lead in effective planning, design, development, implementation, integration, support and upgrade of solutions for addressing business requirements related to specific modules within the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (CS) suite of applications;
  • Ensure that these systems are maintained and operated according to appropriate policies, standards and procedures including those relating to system development, system documentation and change control;
  • Oversee support on the implemented solutions;
  • With other Senior Business Systems Analyst/Developers, lead and co-ordinate the upgrade and maintenance of the implemented modules in the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite;
  • Mentor and/or manage less senior PeopleSoft System Analysts/Developers in the installation, maintenance and configuration of the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite in particular and across all PeopleSoft suites in general.

It is important to note that the job comprises both development and maintenance/support roles. The dominant role at any given point in time will be determined by operational requirements.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • An applicable three-year Bachelor's degree or B Tech (e.g. B.Sc, B.Com Informatics, B. Eng) and a minimum of:
    • Eight years’ proven experience in the design, development, deployment and maintenance of large enterprise (ERP) systems;
    • Five years’ experience in business application troubleshooting and problem resolution;
    • Five years’ experience in working with users and providing user support;
    • Three years’ experience in installing and maintaining PeopleSoft ERP systems - preferably the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite.
OR

  • An applicable IT related diploma (e.g. National Diploma Computer Science, Diploma in Information Technology) and a minimum of:
    • Ten years’ proven experience in the design, development, deployment and maintenance of large enterprise (ERP) systems;
    • Six years’ experience in business application troubleshooting and problem resolution;
    • Six years’ experience in working with users and providing user support;
    • Three years’ experience in installing and maintaining PeopleSoft ERP systems - preferably the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite.

OR

  • Matric or equivalent, and a minimum of:
    • Twelve years’ proven experience in the design, development, deployment and maintenance of large enterprise (ERP) systems;
    • Seven years’ experience in business application troubleshooting and problem resolution;
    • Seven years’ experience in working with users and providing user support;
    • Three years’ experience in installing and maintaining PeopleSoft ERP systems - preferably PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Must be able to:
    • Effectively manage and/or mentor subordinate staff;
    • Communicate (verbally and in writing) clearly and effectively with all stakeholders;
    • Work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines;
    • Follow instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures;
    • Identify specific needs and solve problems;
    • Effectively manage time and resources efficiently;
    • Manage and control change;
    • Handle a variety of tasks simultaneously;
    • Maintain a high level of professionalism;
    • Work in multi-disciplinary team environment.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Courses in the following:
    • System analysis and design;
    • Appropriate PeopleSoft development tools, e.g. Application Designer, PeopleCode, PS Query, SQR and Web Services and PeopleSoft Reporting Tools;
    • Project management;
    • Team management;
    • Business analysis;
    • Test analysis;
  • Appropriate experience in a tertiary education or similar environment;
  • Deep functional insight into the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions suite and experience in the implementation of components of the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Suite;
  • Experience in PeopleSoft development tools (e.g. Applications Engines, Application Packages, EIPs, SQR, Pivot Grids, Excel_to_CI) and PeopleSoft/Oracle reporting tools (PS Query, BI Publisher, nVision, Crystal);
  • Experience in loading PeopleSoft patches and undertaking PeopleSoft version upgrades;
  • Experience in integrating applications using various system integration technologies;
  • Experience in leading a technical system development team and/or mentoring of other development team members.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
