Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences

Applications are invited for a part-time Research Assistant (22.5 hours per week) in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, at the University of Auckland.

The University of Auckland is New Zealand’s leading university, with a turnover of $1.1bn, including research revenue of over $200m generated across eight diverse faculties and two research institutes. We employ more than 5400 academic and professional staff to support over 41,000 students, making us one of NZ’s largest employers.

The role

This position supports the establishment of an ambitious research programme into improving child health in the community. You’ll be central to ensuring the programme is well-organised, and implemented and completed successfully and on time.

  • You’ll liaise with other researchers to organise and support research meetings, and drive forward the resulting outcomes.
  • You’ll also draft, record and manage research ethics submissions and proposals, including handling queries from the Ethics Committee.
  • You’ll be a key liaison for the engagement and consultation process between researchers, practitioners, young people and communities.

Who are we looking for?

With an undergraduate degree in a related field, you will have a sound working knowledge of general research procedures; such experience in the area of children’s health would be a real advantage.

  • We need somebody who’s highly organised, adaptable and flexible.
  • You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint in particular, and comfortable working with large data sets.
  • You will be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to undertake basic statistical analysis would also be advantageous.

Why us?

This is an exciting opportunity to work with leading child health researcher Professor Melissa Wake who, as a new arrival to Auckland herself, will be sharing her passion for improving the health of children in the community, and continuing her trajectory as an award-winning researcher.

You’ll make a tangible contribution to the establishment of a programme to improve child health in Auckland, and deliver on our aim of making great research easier to do.

Alongside this, the University of Auckland is a truly great place to work. Offering five weeks’ annual leave, over 300 courses and workshops designed to support your professional development and standout facilities for staff members who are also parents, it’s easy to see why we've just been voted one of New Zealand’s most attractive employers.*
