Head of Wardrobe in the Department of Drama

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations), international staff members (non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. This therefore means that the period of employment to non-SA citizens will be guided by the validity period of the work permit. In line with legislation governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.
Purpose:
To provide costuming requirements for all RU Drama Department productions and Drama class projects, while maintaining and developing the costume wardrobe.
Requirements:
Grade 12 plus approximately 4 years relevant experience, where such experience includes:
Previous working experience in the following: -
-
costume design (preferably theatrical) and manufacturing including pattern making and sewing
text analysis, script breakdown, and character analysis for theatrical productions
dying and breaking down costumes preferably for theatrical productions
Candidates who are in possession of a 3 year Degree/Diploma in Fashion Design/Theatre Design will have an advantage.
Must be in possession of a valid code 08 driver’s license. Job incumbents not in possession of valid driver’s licence must be prepared to obtain one within the probation period. The cost of the first attempt at doing so will be covered by the Institution. Failure to obtain a valid driver’s licence within the probation period could result in the appointment not being confirmed.

Remuneration
Approximate cost to company: R248 258 per annum
Basic salary Pension/Provident fund: R180 389 per annum
