The Discovery Instruments and Reagents business unit of PerkinElmer is focused on helping our customers develop and deliver more effective treatments and diagnoses for numerous complex diseases affecting the health of people around the world.  We provide instruments, software, and reagents that enable our customers to better understand the biology of disease and bring new drugs and tests to market. Our solutions and the technical expertise of our engineers and scientists support basic, applied, and translational research in the fields of molecular biology, genomics and sequencing, tissue imaging, small molecule drug development, and biotherapeutic drug development. 
 
We are currently recruiting for internship positions in the Reagents R&D group.  PerkinElmer's AlphaLISA platform consists of reagent kits that enable rapid, automatable, highly sensitive, homogeneous detection and quantification of biomarkers, cytokines and other analytes. We seek to develop new reagents and assay kits to expand our portfolio in the areas of cancer, immunology, animal health and epigenetics to enable novel applications for the technology.
 
As part of PerkinElmer's recruiting process, internship applicants are required to submit a brief write-up of a term project, research activity or a technical/scientific personal endeavor of professional relevance, and will be expected to present it.
 
Internship Responsibilities:
  • Learn to independently run and analyze experiments on Alpha platform using a variety of biological, biochemical and protein-based techniques, including the use of automation.
  • Work with staff scientists to develop and execute a detailed project plan.
  • Independently conduct experiments focusing on the generation of data to generate specifications for new assays.
  • Record experimental results for research and development projects in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Write detailed project reports and present data to staff scientists.
