Job Details
Job Purpose
To contribute to the achievement of the Schools research strategy by undertaking specified research activities within an established research programme, and to provide support in management of the project.
The post holder will support the following activities:
- • The development of a MSc programme on metal additive manufacturing, focusing on identifying the industrial need for educational programmes on additive manufacturing, and supporting its development and delivery
- • Perform research on metal additive manufacturing using selective laser melting
Person Specification
Qualifications:
- Normally a PhD or EngD in one of the following subjects: Metallurgy and Material Science, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
Knowledge & Experience:
- • Significant research experience in Selective Laser Melting and/or Direct Laser Deposition of Metallic Systems
- • CAD Modelling experience
- • A postgraduate teaching qualification is highly desirable, though not essential
- • Skilled in microstructural characterisation using analytical SEM, EBSD, TEM and understand the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties
- • Experience in working with industry
- • Demonstrated capability in delivering world-class or international-leading research
- • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
- • Good writing skills and an ability to work as part of a large team
- • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
