Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique research institute in Australia – a jointly funded initiative of UQ and Agri-Science Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland, part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Science and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high-end science that delivers higher impact outcomes for industry and the community.

QAAFI offers postgraduate programs in the disciplines of Plant, Animal and Food sciences internally and externally and provides professional training to both Australian and international students.

The role

The successful appointee will be part of a diverse research team of plant scientists and students working within CPS, QAAFI, to develop a tissue culture protocol for avocado. The  role will be predominantly laboratory based, focused on plant in vitro culture and molecular physiology. This will require experience in a PC2 laboratory and an indepth understanding of experimental design, analysis, effective troubleshooting and process optimisation. The successful candidate will work to deliver research milestones and communicate with both industry and research partners.

The person

Applicants should possess qualifications, preferably a Masters Degree, in plant in vitro culture or a related field. You should also have a strong desire to develop highly-productive research outputs with a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6 for 1 year. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207 - $79,964 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822- $93,558 p.a.).
