The current position is open for the sub-project entitled "Anti-hypertensive effects of systemic or central inhibition of catalase in SHR or 2K1C hypertensive rats" that is part of the project "Experimental physiopathology: central mechanisms of cardiovascular and respiratory control involved in experimental models of hypertension and obesity" (Project FAPESP, 2015/23467-7).
The proposal of the sub-project is to investigate in hypertensive rats (SHR or 2K1C):
1) arterial pressure and renal and splancnic sympathetic activiy in animals treated with ATZ (catalase blocker);
2) possible changes in the pressor responses to glutamate or angiotensin II injected into the PVN or RVLM in rats treated previoulsy with ATZ subcutaneouly or H2O2 in the same central areas;
3) changes in the arterial pressure in animals treated with infusion of H2O2 or losartan (AT1 antagonist) into the lateral ventricle combined with ATZ subcutaneously;
4) changes in ROS (superoxide) and microglia activation in the hipothalamus and RVLM in animals treated with ATZ infusion.
It is highly recommended for candidates experience with estereotaxic technique, recording of sympathetic activity, imunohistochemistry, imunofluorescence, microinjections into central nuclei, arterial and venous cannulation and arterial pressure and heart rate recording in unanesthetized rats. The Laboratory of Physiology deals with interdisciplinary research in integrative physiology involving cardiovascular, respiratory, neuroendocrine and behavioral (thirst and sodium appetite) studies.
Applicants must have a PhD. Scholarship values for postdoctoral level according to FAPESP values.
Please send, until March 31, 2017, curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests and two reference letters by e-mail to Jose Vanderlei Menani: Department of Physiology and Pathology, School of Dentistry - UNESP, Rua Humaitá, 1.680, 14801-903, Araraquara, São Paulo (e-mail: menani@foar.unesp.br).
