Job Details
Job Purpose
To contribute to the achievement of the School's research strategy by undertaking specified research activities within an established research programme, and to provide support in management of the project.
The post holder will carry out research on the development of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology for advanced functional and structural metallic systems.
This programme falls into the college of engineering strategy in terms of maintaining school international leading profile in advanced materials processing research.
Person Specification
Qualifications: Normally a PhD or EngD in one of the following subjects: Metallurgy and Material Science, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
Knowledge & Experience:
- CAD Modelling experience.
- Previous experience with net-shape laser processing via selective laser melting or other additive manufacturing technologies is important.
- Skilled in microstructural characterisation using analytical SEM, TEM and understand the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties.
- Experience in working with industry.
- Knowledge of transmission electron microscopy and/or electron backscattered diffraction is preferred.
- Demonstrated capability in delivering world-class or international-leading research.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
- Good writing skills and an ability to work as part of a large team.
- Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively.
