Senior Legal Counsel, Dispute Resolution Lawyer

Become a key member of a busy Legal team at UQ.  The role encompasses a wide variety of work- including commercial contract disputes, property disputes, advising on student misconduct and appeal issues and research misconduct and process issues (including as to procedural fairness), and advising on regulatory and governance issues.

The role

The Senior Legal Counsel (Dispute Resolution) position is responsible for managing the conduct of litigation on behalf of UQ, and providing legal and strategic advice on disputes and contentious matters arising from the broad range of activities of UQ with a focus on developing strategies to proactively diffuse disputed matters or seek early resolution. The position also provides legal advice on a wide range of other legal issues affecting UQ.

The Senior Legal Counsel (Dispute Resolution) reports to the Associate Director, Legal Services and the General Counsel.  

The person

Applicants must have extensive expertise and experience in commercial litigation and in advising on strategy to resolve commercial and other disputes, including through the use of alternative dispute resolution methods as well as litigation.

Applicants should also be able to provide legal advice on a wide range of other legal issues affecting UQ, and have demonstrated ability to draft a wide variety of legal documents and to handle and resolve complex legal issues.

The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated time management and organisational skills, a strategic outlook and client focused approach.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 9 with an attractive salary package to be negotiated for the right candidate.
