Faculty of Business & Economics

With more than 7,500 students, the Triple Crown-accredited University of Auckland Business School is one of the largest and most successful in the Australasian region. As a whole, the University of Auckland’s ranking in the top 100 of the 2016 QS World Universities Ranking confirms both its status as New Zealand’s pre-eminent research-led university and its place amongst the top 1% of universities worldwide.

The Graduate School of Management enhances our well established reputation for delivering high value, relevant and challenging learning experiences that maximise the employment outcomes for graduates through ensuring each program shares the following characteristics:

  • Research informed teaching
  • Commitment to innovative teaching practices including flipped classroom delivery
  • Focus on case-based and experiential learning, and
  • Integration of professional and personal skill development into the curriculum.

It is in this context all faculty are anticipated to work collaboratively, alongside educational development and learning technology professionals, to deliver a high quality student experience.

The Graduate School of Management (GSM) focuses on delivery of three major suites of programmes: the MBA, Executive Education, and the pre-experience Business Masters programmes.

Strengthened by the continued success of the taught Masters programmes, the Graduate School of Management now seeks highly motivated, research-active Accounting faculty, preferably with expertise in Financial Accounting, to join this world-class multidisciplinary team. The small team of GSM accounting academics interacts with the much larger team in the Department of Accounting and Finance. The discipline of Accounting and Finance at the University of Auckland is ranked within the top 50 worldwide by the 2016 QS World Universities Ranking.

We encourage applications from academics who are committed to ensuring that students have an extraordinary learning experience that is informed by relevant research and enhanced by appropriate learning technologies.

As you will contribute to the development and delivery of applied and practice-based demand-driven curriculum, it is essential you have experience engaging with diverse postgraduate student cohorts.

In addition, you will have a demonstrable track record of quality research outputs that will enable you to engage in research and supervision within, and desirably across, disciplinary boundaries.

All applications should provide the selection committee with the ability to evaluate:

  • A cover letter clearly indicating rank of interest
  • A Curriculum Vitae
  • A statement and substantiation of your teaching philosophy
  • A statement of your experience in postgraduate teaching, with an applied/practitioner focus (including teaching students from non-cognate backgrounds and international students)
  • Teaching evaluations
  • A Statement of your research program, including full publications record

The University of Auckland is dedicated to providing an excellent and stimulating environment for its employees which ensures a healthy work life balance. As such we offer benefits such as research and study leave, wide range of leadership and development programmes, subsidised car parking, childcare and medical insurance; generous annual leave and recreation centre facilities.

If you have the drive, enthusiasm and commitment to help us achieve our goals we would be delighted to hear from you.

The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and students in a safe, inclusive and equitable environment.  For further information on services for Māori, Pacific, women, LGBTI, equity groups, parenting support and flexible work go to www.equity.auckland.ac.nz.
