Job Purpose

This position will be a three year clinical research fellow based at the Institute of Inflammation and Ageing in the Queen Elizabeth hospital Birmingham. The post is one of several CRFs funded by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre in Inflammation and is part of the Inflammatory sarcopaenia theme led by Prof Lord. This theme is also supported by other posts including 3 non-clinician researchers and an AHP. The CRF will be carrying out research to determine the extent of sarcopaenia in patients with Rheumatoid arthritis, Chronic Liver Disease and Inflammatory bowel disease. The research will also involve interventions to reverse sarcopaenia in one or more of these patient groups. The post will suit a clinician willing to work across disciplinary boundaries to improve patient health.

Person Specification

Essential:
- Candidates should be registered with the GMC with a Licence to Practice.
- Medical degree.
- Possession of MRCP (or equivalent).

Desirable:
- Demonstrable research experience such as a BSc Upper Second Class Honours, Masters or equivalent.
- Understanding and experience of research methods and processes related to the study of sarcopaenia or the chronic inflammatory diseases to be studied (RA, IBD, CLD).
- Experience in MRI.
