Centre for Doctoral Training Manager

The Bristol Centre for Functional Nanomaterials (BCFN) is a Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) providing a four-year integrated PhD training programme and a one year taught masters programme. The BCFN launched in 2009 and was successfully refunded in 2014 and delivers leading postgraduate training to carefully selected cohorts of PhD and MSc students. The BCFN benefits from close interactions with industry, international academic partners and funders as well as other leading doctoral training centres across the UK.  It is based in a suite of offices and teaching rooms in the School of Physics.

This is a 17.5 hour/week job-share (Mon-Wed) position funded until 31/3/18. We are looking to recruit an exceptional individual to share the role with our existing BCFN Manager.  Working to the Director, the two post-holders take full responsibility for a substantial range of decision making and activity involved in the day-to-day management of a CDT.  This includes managing the £7M budget; liaising with funding bodies; administering student records and processes from recruitment to graduation; scheduling student training programmes; providing pastoral support to students, and facilitating interaction amongst students and academic staff.

You will have relevant experience in Higher Education administration or research, excellent organisation and project management skills; the ability to plan and prioritise work loads and to meet multiple fixed deadlines.  You will possess excellent numeracy, IT and written skills. Experience of strategic and daily financial management would be an advantage. Additionally, you should be able to manage a constant and varied portfolio of requests and be able to work independently and with self-motivation. The post line manages a part-time administrator but prior line management experience is not essential.
