Job Purpose

The post holder is responsible for the strategic development and operational management of one of the University’s five College IT Support Teams, in accordance with the requirements of the College, IT Services, the University Strategic Framework and the objectives of the University’s C&IT Strategy.

They will be fully responsible for providing highly experienced team and technical management of a large and diverse interdisciplinary team of IT professionals within the College. They will ensure the Colleges critical IT services and systems are maintained and developed to support the teaching, learning, research and business requirements of the College, whilst ensuring consistency with the University’s IT strategies, policies and standards as defined by IT Services, and the University’s corporate objectives as defined in the University Strategic Framework.

Responsible for the strategic management and direction of IT support and services across the College, the post holder will be accountable for making recommendations concerning considerable amounts of IT expenditure.

Person Specification

- Formal education to degree level or equivalent relevant significant experience.
- A postgraduate qualification in a C&IT related discipline would be an advantage.
- A significant amount of relevant experience in a similar heterogeneous IT support environment.
- A proven track record of managing a multidisciplinary IT support team of significant size.
- Proven management, team leadership and motivational skills.
- Proven ability to develop and manage C&IT services in a professional and flexible manner, whilst taking into account broader agendas and strategic needs.
- Proven project management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of all areas of C&IT, including latest technology trends.
- Excellent customer relationship management skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collectively within a divisional environment.
- Clear, concise and professional communication skills, both written and oral
- Knowledge of Higher Education in general and its environment.
- An awareness of developments in IT of potential relevance to the University of Birmingham, including knowledge of developments elsewhere in the HE sector.
- An ability to think strategically beyond IT in the broader academic and business context.
