The University of Auckland invites applications for the position of Clinical Research Coordinator in the Dementia Prevention Research Clinic (DPRC).

The role

This key position involves:

  • Coordinating DPRC clinical research and the conduct of clinical trials, including the collection, storage and analysis of data
  • Data collection; database development and management; co-ordination of recruitment strategies; and data collection for the healthy aging arm of the DPRC
  • Responsibility for patient coordination; assisting with scheduling and arranging clinics and appointments; and assisting with recruitment, clinical assessments and follow-up of participants

The primary role is a clinical research coordinator, but it is expected that the candidate will also participate in the nursing duties and blood sampling of DPRC participants and will assist the DPRC Research Nurse with clinic coordination, and other clinic related tasks.

Applicants should ideally have a background in the coordination of clinical research studies and database management, and skills in blood sampling. Ideally they will also be a NZ Registered Health Professional with Current Annual Practicing Certificate. 

The successful applicant will be required to work effectively with other DPRC staff, and University of Auckland Clinical Research Centre staff.

The background

The DPRC is part of the outreach and effector arm of the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at the University of Auckland and of the national Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) - Brain Research New Zealand (BRNZ), co-hosted by the University of Auckland and the University of Otago.

The DPRC is engaged in the investigation of biomarkers that identify individuals who will develop Alzheimer’s disease and the translation of basic research into clinical therapies to benefit patients. The DPRC recruits individuals who are either healthy older adults, or in the very early stages of cognitive decline or dementia resulting from neurodegenerative disorders and examines the natural progression and possible strategies to delay onset or slow progression.

The Clinical Research Coordinator will be based at the University of Auckland’s Grafton Campus, but may be required to undertake travel nationally as required for implementation of a national network of DPRC clinics.

This is a full time fixed term positon for 2 years. Professional Staff Level 5.
