We are seeking a highly motivated senior scientist to join our potency & analytical testing team within the Biologics and Vaccines Analytical Biologics BioProcess organization at the Merck-Kenilworth campus. The qualified candidate will be responsible for the development and qualification of assays for various protein therapeutics. Position responsibilities include development of multiple assays to assess biological activity and characterize therapeutic proteins for extended characterization, QC lot release, and stability studies, providing oversight to CROs, and transfer of assays into GMP and QC laboratories.

The successful candidate will work as part of an extended team and have a detailed knowledge of potency assays and functional characterization of therapeutic proteins through all stages of development, with a focus on assays for Fc analysis for mAb therapeutics including cell-based assays for ADCC and CDC. Additional responsibilities will include development of surface plasmon resonance (Biacore)-based assays to measure target binding affinity, FACS analysis, and development of assays for bispecifics, nanobodies, insulins and insulin-like molecules. The senior scientist will also be expected to prepare technical reports and submission documents, trouble shoot assays, and effectively communicate to scientific audiences including senior management.

Qualifications

Education:

- MS with a minimum of 6 years of therapeutic protein drug development experience OR PhD with therapeutic protein drug development experience.

Required:

- Critical skills include detailed experience in immunoassay development, tissue culture, FACS, Biacore, and cellular assay development including antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity and complement dependent cytotoxicity assays supporting all stages of therapeutic protein development.

- Must have experience trouble-shooting and improving methods and excellent oral and written communication skills including preparation of technical reports and health authority submission documents.

- Ability to effectively work independently (minimal direction) and within project teams is critical.

Preferred:

- Ideal candidate will have developed assays for mAbs, nanobodies, peptides, insulins or insulin variants, and bispecifics.

- Experience with assay qualification / validation is desired.
