Job Details

IMDEA Materials (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies of Materials) is a non-profit, independent research institute, promoted by the Regional Government de Madrid (Spain), to carry out research in Materials Science and Engineering. IMDEA Materials Institute is committed to excellence in research by attracting talent from all over the world and to foster technology transfer to the industrial sector in a truly international environment. More information about the activities of the Institute can be found at: http://www.materials.imdea.org
DESCRIPTION
The Multifunctional Nanocomposites Groups is looking for a PhD student to work in the research project STEM (structural energy harvesting composite composites) funded by an ERC Starting Grant.
The research activities will be focused on the development of hybrids based on semiconducting metal oxides and porous flexible scaffolds made of carbon nanotube yarns.
The goal is to produce bulk nanoporous electrodes with highly engineered interface that improve charge transfer and storage. This study includes materials synthesis by in-situ growth of the inorganic phase in the presence of the nanocarbon, using wet chemical routes and atomic layer deposition, and their characterisation by spectroscopy techniques (XPS, UPS, Raman) and X-ray diffraction. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy will be extensively used to characterize the hybrids.
Finally, these materials will be used in selected devices (photo(electro)catalytic and electrochemical) fabricated with support from the group and collaborators.
