Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation 

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique UQ research institute, which was formed as a strategic alliance between UQ and the  Queensland Government's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Science and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high impact science for sustainable agriculture and food by delivering outcomes for industry and the community.

QAAFI is located on 13 facilities, across the state, with over 450 scientists, including 120 higher degree students and has collaborations with over 200 DAF scientists. The annual consolidated income for the institute is projected to be greater than $36 million for 2017 and the Institute has over $100 million of contracted research.

The role

The successful appointee will be a leader whose overall responsibility will be to execute the strategic direction of the Institute in collaboration with the Director and Management Team. You will perform a broad range of responsibilities with the primary focus of the position being to engage with external stakeholders and provide continuous strategic development for enhancement of collaborative and new research ventures. This position will also provide oversight of the Institutes operational function including financial accountability.

The person

Applicants should possess a postgraduate qualification in commerce, management, administration and/or a qualification in the area of agriculture and food science. You should have a demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote businesses like the Institute. You will be a strong leader who is able to work in a complex organisational environment and contribute to the strategic planning, implementation and policy formulation. Extensive experience in a management, engagement and/or strategic role in a must. You will also need to have extensive knowledge of issues affecting agricultural research in Australia and/or internationally.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time,  fixed term appointment for 5 years at Senior Administrator salary of HEW 10A,  however the remuneration package will at commercial standards and subject to negotiation.
