DEPARTMENTAL ADMINISTRATOR B (25 HOURS PER WEEK)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent is expected to provide effective office administration as well as operational support to the Department of Mercantile Law, to ensure successful functioning of the Department, with our primary objectives being that of excellence in teaching and research. This will include:

  • Rendering personal assistance to the Head of Department;
  • Acting as the first point of contact for the Department;
  • General office administration, handling of incoming and outgoing correspondence as well as general enquiries;
  • Academic administrative support and maintaining undergraduate and postgraduate records;
  • Database management;
  • Assisting with departmental facilities management and security arrangements.
  • Events Management
  • Marketing Administration

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Grade 12 and three years’ experience that includes office administration, secretarial experience and financial administration;
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word (intermediate ), MS Excel (intermediate) and e-mail;
  • Organising skills and the ability to work independently under pressure;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Good administrative abilities and skills in prioritising and meeting demanding targets;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, highly organised and with a keen commitment to excellence;
  • Ability to maintain high levels of discretion and confidentiality.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Applicable diploma or other appropriate qualification in secretarial or office administration;
  • Knowledge and experience of PeopleSoft system;
  • Previous relevant experience in a tertiary or academic environment;
  • Certificates attained for applicable computer programmes or compliance with UP skills tests.

 

PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 167 757 to R 198 267 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
