UQ Human Resources is responsible for enabling achievement of the University's strategic ambitions through attracting, developing and retaining talented, engaged and high performing staff. This, in turn, enables University staff to better support our current and future students. Human Resources provides high quality human resource management guidance and expertise, through effective policy development, constructive advice and efficient administrative services.  We are building a team of strategic HR professionals to provide outstanding, client focused, proactive and effective solutions and services for all UQ staff. Human Resources at UQ operates within a devolved environment with Human Resources staff located in Professional Services teams in Faculties, Research Institutes and Central Divisions, supported by HR specialist service teams.

The role

The HR Relationship Manager is a member of the HR Services Leadership Team, and is primarily responsible for the overall management of HR service delivery, including the quality and effectiveness of their Professional Services Team. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Human Resources (Client Services),

the HR Relationship Manager has five key accountabilities:

  • Client Focused Strategy & Planning

  • HR Service Delivery Excellence

  • Key Stakeholder & Relationship Management

  • Aligned Leadership & People Management

  • Effective Project & Risk Management

These key accountabilities are achieved primarily by partnering with clients to build and maintain strong working relationships, in turn developing and maintaining a deep understanding of the current issues, emerging trends, and future client requirements from within their Professional Services Team. The HR Relationship Manager, as a 'trusted expert advisor', uses excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, to provide leadership and guidance to ensure the alignment of a broad range of HR strategies and best practice that meet current and future needs. There is a particular focus on providing expert policy advice, employee relations, and managing complex people related problems or issues (e.g. case management investigations), in line with client and University policy requirements.

There is also a focus on managing client workforce data and analytics to provide strategic insights and advice to the executive leadership team on people related trends, issues and potential solutions. This forms part of the provision of end-to-end HR solutions and service delivery, including the allocation of projects and operational service delivery resources.  The HR Relationship Manager ensures that the emerging and current needs of the Professional Services Team, in particular strategic workforce and recruitment plans, are factored into University wide plans.

The person

Applicants should possess a postgraduate qualification with extensive experience in Human Resources and management, particular in providing strategic HR management, planning and analysis, with highly developed skills enabling the management of end-to-end delivery of strategic HR advice and operational service to clients. The successful appointee will need excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, combined with demonstrated experience working in a complex employee relations environment, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective client relationships with complex stakeholders.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 9. The remuneration package will be circa $135,000 p.a., with the prospect of an annual performance bonus.
