Pacific Health, based on the University of Auckland's Tamaki Campus, is seeking to appoint two full-time positions to provide expertise, capacity and capability to the section. Given the specific focus of these positions, there is flexibility to consider the level of the appointment and allocation of the FTE, subject to the needs of the department.

The successful appointees will provide teaching and supervision to students, initiate and conduct internationally-recognised research and scholarship in the broad area of Pacific people's health, and disseminate and share evidence and research through appropriate channels including publications.

Applicants must have:

  • A postgraduate degree (PhD or MD) in health, social science or development studies with relevance to Pacific people, and the broad view of health and well-being
  • Previous teaching experience at university level
  • Grant-writing and academic publication expertise

In addition, the following experience would be advantageous:

  • Previous research experience
  • Experience in working in partnership with Pacific Community Groups of the Pacific sector
  • Experience of postgraduate supervision
  • Established Pacific People’s health expertise
  • Established research skills, either qualitative, quantitative or both
  • An understanding/appreciation of the greater Pacific Region and the diversity within the between countries

Auckland's harbour setting, magnificent beaches and verdant bush make it a great place to study and work, whilst the University's close proximity to New Zealand's major businesses and hospitals enables staff and students to rub shoulders with leading practitioners in their field.

The pace is relaxed, the people are friendly, and with a diverse range of leisure options and high quality schools it is easy to understand why New Zealand is continually ranked as one of the best places in the world to live and raise a family.
