Job Details

Location: Bristol, UK

The University of Bristol Law School is a leading UK law school with an international reputation for outstanding teaching and research. Ranked 5th on research intensity in REF2014, the law school is home to a diverse and inclusive academic community aspiring to the highest standards in legal education and research. Housed in the iconic Wills Memorial Building with additional elegant premises nearby in Berkeley Square, the Law School represents a unique blend of tradition and innovation, offering an educational experience which challenges and empowers students.

The School is seeking to enhance its educational capacity by recruiting Senior Teaching Associates and/or Teaching Fellows to join our thriving academic community and make a full contribution to the design and delivery of an outstanding legal educational experience. The successful applicants will also be expected to teach on one or more foundational subjects on our undergraduate (LLB) and/or postgraduate (MA) programmes.

There are three full time posts available; however the School is open to requests for part time working. The successful candidates will be appointed as either a Senior Teaching Associate in Law (Profile Level b) or Teaching Fellow in Law (Profile Level c) depending on experience and the additional criteria outlined in the Further Particulars. The posts are open ended and fully progressable, commencing 1 August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates should have relevant experience of effective teaching on a qualifying law degree or equivalent; relevant experience of effective marking at degree level or equivalent; excellent interpersonal skills; and evidence of ability to carry out academic administrative duties effectively. Candidates should also hold a strong honours degree or equivalent in law (for example, Graduate Diploma in Law combined with legal practice qualification) and a postgraduate degree or equivalent in law or substantial experience of legal practice.

For appointment at Teaching Fellow candidates should also have experience of effective leadership.

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on 27 April 2017. It is expected that interviews will be held mid to late May 2017.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Joanne Conaghan, University of Bristol Law School, by e-mail: hos-law@bristol.ac.uk or tel: +44 (0)117 954 5343.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
