Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique research institute in Australia – a jointly funded initiative of UQ and Agri-Science Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland, part of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Scienceand the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high-end science that delivers higher impact outcomes for industry and the community.

QAAFI offers postgraduate programs in the disciplines of Plant, Animal and Food sciences internally and externally and provides professional training to both Australian and international students.

The role

To develop and implement new approaches for genomic prediction and gene discovery models for large genomic and phenotype data sets in combination with reproductive strategies to reduce breeding cycles, in order to accelerate the rate of improvement in key agricultural traits across a number of species. 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD qualification in an area related to genetic improvement in agricultural species with significant research experience. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in genomic prediction and gene discovery for breeding programs deploying advanced reproductive technologies, supporting both crop and livestock improvement initiatives. An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote genetic improvement at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies. Evidence of a contribution to research, including scholarly publications commensurate with experience is essential.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic level A or B, for 3 years. The remuneration package will be in the range of – Academic level A $75,557 - $87,534 p.a., or Academic level B $92,142 - $109,419 plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range of - Academic level A $88,401 – 102,416 p.a., or Academic level B $107,807 – 128,020 p.a.).
