Job Details
The School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia with 75 full-time academic staff members who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds.
The Centre for Hypersonics at The University of Queensland is internationally renowned for excellence and innovation in hypersonic aerodynamics research. Our researchers have been active internationally during that period, and have been involved in collaborative research programs with about 20 universities and research organizations around the world. The Centre's objectives are to provide visible international leadership in the Centre's areas of expertise in hypersonics, to maintain a high level of activity in both fundamental and applied research, to provide graduate and undergraduate training opportunities of the highest international standards and to play a pivotal role as collaborators in major international projects. The successful applicant for this position will help the Centre achieve these aims and maintain its international reputation assisting in the development of hypersonic air-breathing engines.
The role
The successful appointee will conduct research as part of the team supporting the Defence Science and Technology Group's (DTSG) hypersonic air-breathing engine development program.
The person
Applicants should possess a PhD in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering or equivalent field. You should have the ability to develop a research career in the field of hypersonics. Experience in the design, simulation and ground testing of scramjet engines in impulse facilities is essential. Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical design and ability to use modern CAD software is required. You should have high level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment until the 16 February 2019 at Research Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $64,533 - $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $87,535 - $102,415 p.a.).
