The School of Curriculum and Pedagogy is seeking a Lecturer to complement their existing group of academic staff involved in research and teaching in the area of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), languages teaching, and literacies.  As one focus of their work, lecturers on the Graduate Diploma in TESSOL programme work with practising teachers in Auckland who are on scholarships from the Ministry of Education to explore ways to help diverse students with the academic language demands of the curriculum.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity from September 2017 (or as negotiated).

The successful candidate will have

  • A doctorate (or one under examination)  in TESOL / Applied Language Studies / Applied Linguistics/ Education (with a specialisation in languages or literacies)
  • Experience in teaching successfully on undergraduate and / or postgraduate courses
  • Experience in working effectively with practice communities
  • Experience in attracting and successfully supervising OR the potential to attract and supervise masters and doctoral students
  • Evidence of a research platform and related quality-assured publishing commensurate with career level expectations
  • Demonstrated the ability to create strong and effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and a range of stakeholders
  • A commitment to equity, including bilingual education

Ideally the successful applicant will also have

  • Experience teaching in primary and/or secondary schools and/or lecturing or tutoring
  • Experience with / knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum
  • Experience of teaching English through curriculum/content
  • Fluency in more than one language
  • A teaching qualification and teacher registration in New Zealand, or be eligible for registration in New Zealand
