Job Details
The Department of English is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in English Literature and Environmental Humanities in any period from the medieval to the present day. The starting date for the post is September 2017. The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant field (English Literature, American Literature, Comparative Literature) awarded before the date of appointment, an outstanding research profile, and strong experience, or potential, as a teacher and academic colleague. Applications will be welcomed from all areas of English Literature and Environmental Humanities; research expertise in ecofeminism, ecospirituality, or animal studies may be at an advantage.
The successful candidate will join a Department with a long-standing reputation for the quality of its teaching and its research, and become part of a dynamic community of scholars in the English Department and the Faculty of Arts. The Department sees this post as strengthening its provision in Environmental Humanities for both undergraduate and postgraduate communities, and as part of a wider initiative across the Faculty of Arts towards the development of this emerging field.

Timescale of appointment:
Long-listed candidates will be notified on or about 9th May 2017. They will be required to submit a sample of their work (in English, not more than 10,000 words) no later than 12th May 2017.
Short-listed candidates will be notified on or about Friday, 26th May 2017 invited to interview.
Interview date: 28th June 2017.
Anticipated start date: September 2017
Cut-off date for submission of applications: 3rd May 2017.
