The ability to teach early modern philosophy and a masters level unit on the history of science is strongly desirable. The University invites applications from candidates who have an outstanding record of research or research potential in this area.

In recent years the department has been highly successful in attracting grant income and hosts several active research projects and many postdoctoral researchers and teaching fellows as well as permanent staff.

The undergraduate community is diverse with a number of joint honours programmes as well as a large single honours programme and eight successful and growing taught masters programmes. We also have a large number of PhD students, creating a thriving community of students and researchers. A significant number of our recent research students have gone on to prestigious postdoctoral positions and permanent posts. Members of the department are active in various forms of outreach, public engagement, impact work, and widening participation.

The candidate will be expected to develop an internationally leading independent research programme as well as working in collaboration with other researchers in philosophy and the rest of the University.

The candidate is expected to work with colleagues to develop research and teaching across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. With its highly collaborative and supportive environment, the department is looking to appoint a collegial and energetic person who will form relationships in teaching and research with colleagues, as well as contribute to the life of the department across a range of areas.

The department is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion (see http://www.bristol.ac.uk/philosophy/about/equality-and-diversity/) and we especially welcome applications from groups underrepresented in academic philosophy.
