Job Details
Job Purpose
To assist the Head of Collections and Learning and the Curatorial Technician in the day-to-day management of the galleries and collections of the Barber Institute; to manage the Barber Institute’s picture library.
Person Specification
Essential
• Degree in History of Art or a related arts degree with a strong component of History of Art modules.
• Demonstrable experience of working in a museum or art gallery
• Experience in handling works of art
• Good organisational and administrative skills, with attention to deadlines and detail
• Good communication skills (both written and oral) and presentation skills
• Good interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with colleagues, volunteers and visitors, etc
• Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to be flexible and use judgement to prioritise workload
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Knowledge of database software, especially collections management systems
• High level of literacy/numeracy – GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
Desirable
• Postgraduate qualification in museum or gallery studies
• Experience of installing exhibitions and displays
• Knowledge of current museum and curatorial issues and technical best practice
• Experience of digital photography
