Based in The Energy and Climate Change Division/ Sustainable Energy Research Group within (www.energy.soton.ac.uk)the Faculty of Engineering and Environment, you will work on interdisciplinary programmes encompassing high quality research in the field of renewable energy. The project will have  particular emphasis on energy for development (E4D), including mini grids, solar-powered home systems and will include conducting on site surveys and analysis. The project is funded through Innovate UK with industrial collaborators.

The primary base of the post is the University of Southampton but regular project-related travel to Africa / Asia will be expected (often at short notice) together with attendance at national and international conferences and other events as appropriate. The role will involve additional fieldwork with some surveys conducted in the target counties of the project. This interdisciplinary project will involve close collaboration with the non-academic project partners and substantial exposure to the energy for development sector and policies.

It is essential you have a PhD or equivalent research experience in a demonstrably relevant subject area and experience of energy for development. You will demonstrate strong organisational skills, good interpersonal skills, be fluent in English both written and spoken, and must be able to work well in a team environment.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This post is for one year in the first instance and subject to continued funding.
