Job Purpose

The post holder is expected to contribute to the achievement of the School’s research strategy by developing and undertaking novel research activities on the novel subject of ‘bulk nanobubbles’.
The aim is to explore and study the field of bulk nanobubbles experimentally, theoretically/numerically, and, in particular, to investigate their formation, size distribution, and stability.

The work will involve investigation of alternative bulk nanobubble generation methods and techniques for their characterisation. Another aim is to develop an engineering-level description of nanobubbles for use in industrial applications and design. Continuous interaction with our academic partners will aim to provide data and interpretations to validate molecular dynamics models and simulations. In addition, interaction with any industrial partners, as appropriate, will seek to explore and develop applications of this novel technology.

Person Specification

• A strong first degree in Chemical Engineering or a relevant subject.
• A PhD in a relevant subject.
• Proven track record in a relevant research area.
• Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and/or research methods and techniques relevant to the project’s area of research.
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
• Have a strong scientific vision and creativity.
• Have strong experimental skills.
• Have strong theoretical skills.
• Be conversant in relevant modelling techniques.

Desirable:
• A strong background in fluid mechanics, interfacial and colloid science, data analysis and modelling, and experience in gas-liquid systems are highly desirable.
• Experience in collaborating with industrial and academic partners would be advantageous.
