The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Exploratory Science Center (ESC) Cambridge, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck and Co., is focused on driving early discovery research. We are seeking an innovative and experienced chemical biologist to join the Merck Exploratory Science Center (ESC) in Cambridge, MA.

The successful candidate will become part of a creative and fast-paced team that will discover novel therapeutics targeting one of two (2) initial areas:

- Interaction of the microbiome and host with the ultimate goal of delivering novel therapeutics to address significant unmet medical need in multiple therapeutic areas

- Novel prophylactic or therapeutic interventions to address significant unmet medical need in infectious disease.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

- Leverage advances in chemical biology to impact ESC programs

- The candidate will be part of a cross-functional team contributing to the strategic direction of research programs across multiple therapeutic modalities

- Will be responsible for development and execution of cell-based and biochemical assays critical to project objectives

- Act as a leader from the bench, driving program and chemical biology strategy and execution

- Provide scientific mentoring and technical training of team members

Qualifications

Education / Work Experience Requirements:

- B.S. with (4) years experience in Chemical Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular, Biomedical Sciences or related discipline

- M.S. with (2) years experience in Chemical Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular, Biomedical Sciences or related discipline

Required Experience:

- Rigorous scientific thinking and a proven track record of driving the advancement of Drug Discovery programs

- Independent experimental design and execution of experiments

- Effective written and oral communication skills

- Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals

Preferred Experience:

- M.S. with (5) years Pharmaceutical Industry experience in Drug Discovery

- Experience in mentoring other scientist or research teams
