Job Summary:

To contribute meaningfully and to ensure quality teaching and learning. To support the development of critical thinking of staff and students in the school and faculty by increasing capacity in handling legal issues associated with our curricula. To introduce students to legal research and reasoning and provide practical training in legal problem solving, essay writing and advocacy. To nurture students who will contribute positively to society by advancing specialised knowledge and paving a way to a better future.

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicable LLD in South African law and more specifically in the fields of criminal law, criminal procedures and indigenousness law.

  • Three to six years’ lecturing experience at a Higher-Education institution in the disciplines of criminal law, criminal procedure and indigenousness law.

  • Two to five years’ experience in conducting research that is published in accredited academic journals and books.

  • Demonstration of diversity management in order to function optimally in the various multilingual and multicultural environments of the NWU.

  • A high level of computer literacy, with the ability to use various Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Administration skills.

  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively as part of a team, as well as to work independently.

  • Effective organisation skills to manage workloads.

  • The ability to develop and identify the needs of the law discipline within South Africa from a research and an educational perspective.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


Job Specification

Responsibilities:

  • Lecturing law modules at undergraduate level.

  • Supervision of law student projects.

  • Be an active researcher who publishes research in peer reviewed journals and books.

  • General academic administration.

  • Evidence of wanting to pursue the completion of higher qualifications.

  • Marketing the department in terms of recruiting students and maintaining relations with local stakeholders.

  • Community engagement and/or implementation of expertise
