Description

Merck & Co., Inc. Kenilworth, N.J., U.S.A. known as Merck in the United States and Canada, is a global health care leader with a diversified portfolio of prescription medicines, vaccines and animal health products. Today, we are building a new kind of healthcare company – one that is ready to help create a healthier future for all of us.

Our ability to excel depends on the integrity, knowledge, imagination, skill, diversity and teamwork of an individual like you. To this end, we strive to create an environment of mutual respect, encouragement and teamwork. As part of our global team, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues while developing and expanding your career.

This position within the Screening and Compound Profiling Department at Merck Research Laboratories (Kenilworth NJ, USA) will support drug lead discovery, optimization and development through the application of BioNMR spectroscopy.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join our Biophysics, BioNMR and Protein Production & Characterization group. This group supports a broad range of drug discovery and development efforts that include fragment-based NMR screening and lead discovery, and detailed studies of ligand-protein interactions. Our group also supports the discovery and development of therapeutic proteins. You will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists, using state-of-the-art equipment that includes 500, 600(2) and 800 MHz spectrometers and automation.

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will apply BioNMR based techniques to identify fragment hits to drug targets, characterize their binding interaction with the drug target using both established and novel BioNMR methods, and collaborate with this team to progress prioritized fragment hits into novel leads. Your work will also include the application of a wide range of BioNMR technologies to understand the binding of small molecules and biologics discovered though other screening platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with biologists and protein biochemists and will have access to automated cloning, expression and crystallization technologies.

Productive and collaborative interactions with other members of the global, cross-functional department are required. There is an expectation for periodic travel to other locations. Cooperative and collaborative use of internal expertise and resources will be essential to success. The position requires active interaction with the external scientific community to continually improve scientific understanding, including presentations at national or international meetings.

Consistently cited as a great place to work, Merck employs talented people who discover, develop, manufacture, and market a wide range of vaccines and medicines to address unmet medical needs.

Each of us is joined by an extraordinary sense of purpose — bringing Merck’s finest achievements to people worldwide.
