We are seeking an experienced and motivated researcher in the field of hollow core optical fibres to work on the development and use of state-of-the-art fibres for laser and sensing applications. The project which is backed by UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funding and will be supervised by Professor David Richardson and Professor Francesco Poletti who both have a strong, internationally renowned track record in this area, and will involve significant interaction with an array of industrial collaborators.  The successful candidate will join a team of around 15 researchers focussing on the field of hollow core fibres, based at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, UK. 

The applicant must have a strong background in photonics, preferably in optical fibre fabrication, and would ideally additionally have experience in sensing and/or laser applications. Experience and knowledge of fibre design and characterisation are both highly desirable. 

The applicant must also have a background in laboratory experimentation with critical evaluation and interpretation of data. It is expected that they will hold, a PhD* or equivalent qualification related to fibre optics or photonics more broadly. 

The post will be for 2 years in duration, with good prospects for further extension depending on performance. 

* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
