DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER (THREE POSTS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of modules in the Department;
- Developing a research programme in their area of expertise and/or expanding existing research programmes;
- Publishing research articles in accredited national and international journals;
- Supervising postgraduate Master’s and Doctoral students within the research focus areas;
- Performing assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
LECTURER
- A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering;
- One year teaching experience at University level;
- The expertise area must be in the Civil engineering area;
- Candidate must preferably be registered or registerable with the Engineering Council of South Africa or registered as Candidate Engineer;
- A proven research record supported by publications in peer reviewed journals.
SENIOR LECTURER
- A PhD degree in Engineering that follows the previous qualification;
- One year teaching experience at University level;
- The expertise area must be in the Civil engineering area;
- Candidate must preferably be registered or registerable with the Engineering Council of South Africa or registered as Candidate Engineer;
- A proven research record supported by publications in peer reviewed journals.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Three years’ teaching experience at University level;
- Show the ability to teach large undergraduate classes (> 150 students);
- Applicants must have an appropriate NRF research rating or be legible to apply for an appropriate rating;
- Data Science qualification / analysis experience;
- Structural engineering qualification / experience;
- Civil engineering design experience;
- Integration of engineering sciences;
- Experience in Civil engineering practice.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
