SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND ARTS

The School of Communication and Arts is a large, research-intensive unit with an international reputation for outstanding research and teaching in English Literature, Art History, Communication, Media, Cultural Studies, Film and Television Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Relations, Creative and Professional Writing, and Drama.

The School has been organised to enhance research and teaching strengths in Communication.  Communication has been recognised as one of the top 20 research strengths at UQ and was awarded a top score of 5 in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) research assessment exercise.

The School teaches into the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Communication, the Bachelor of Journalism, and the Bachelor of International Studies, and has a suite of postgraduate coursework programs. Its postgraduate programs include Writing, Editing, and Publishing; Public Relations; and Communication for Social Change. The School attracts a large number of Australian and international students to its research higher degree programs, which may be undertaken as PhD or MPhil.

The role

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the academic and student administration team and develop and coordinate efficient administrative service, systems and processes in support of teaching and learning within the School of Communication and Arts. The position is the principal source of administrative support and advice to the Head of School, Director (Teaching and Learning), School Manager and Convenors of the Bachelor of Communication and Bachelor of Journalism programs, and the BA Majors in relation to student and academic administration matters. 

The person

Applicants should possess a degree with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. The successful applicant should have relevant administrative experience in a tertiary education institution or similar environment desirably in client-focused roles in student and academic administration or international student administration. The person requires proven high level communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, the demonstrated ability to lead and manage a professional team within a flexible environment, and the capacity to work with a variety of people including professional and academic staff, students, and members of the broader University community.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be $74,207 - $79,964 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822 - $93,558 p.a.).
