Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation

The Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) is a unique UQ research institute, which was formed as a strategic alliance between UQ and the  Queensland Government's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). QAAFI conducts research and development to benefit the food and fibre sector both nationally and internationally.

The Institute's strengths are reflected in its three research centres – the Centre for Plant Science, the Centre for Animal Science and the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences.  QAAFI brings together scientists from UQ and DAF to conduct high impact science for sustainable agriculture and food by delivering outcomes for industry and the community.

The QAAFI Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences has expertise in identifying the mechanisms underlying consumer-perceived properties of foods, both sensory and nutritional. The QAAFI Centre for Animal Science has expertise in the relationships between animal genetics and performance, with a particular focus on enhancing productivity and meat quality in tropical production systems. This new position is to build an activity in meat science that can connect the current skills in the two Centres and provide new insights into consumer-relevant meat properties for both domestic and export markets. As the beef industry is the largest of the agriculture economy in Queensland, providing leading-edge insights and opportunities for this important sector will be a priority.

The role

As a research leader for Meat Science you will be required to engage in research for industry outcomes, undertake postgraduate teaching and supervision and further develop the Institute's research programs. The role will be filled at academic level C, D or E depending on the preferred applicants experience.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of Meat Science or relevant discipline. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career in Meat Science or already have an established profile. You will have the ability to establish relationships and to represent and promote Meat Science at the University and wider community level including industry, government and professional bodies. A track recordin in supervision Research Higher Degree students is also required.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, Research Contingent funded appointment at Academic Research level C, D or E depending on level of experience.  The remuneration package will be in the range $112,874 - $175,070 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $144,465 - $224,069 p.a.).
